St. Luke's Preschool February Newsletter

February may be a short month, but that doesn't mean we won't be busy. We've got many fun activities and units planned for the students this month, including show-n-tell, Love Our Books, and of course...a Valentine's Party! If you signed up to volunteer with your child's party and have not heard from the parent coordinators, please see your child's teacher. Additionally, if you would like to provide a special treat for the event, please ask your child's teacher with whom you should coordinate. All parents are welcome to attend the party, even if you didn't sign up to volunteer. Hope to see you there!

February is when registration for the next school year opens to the public. If you know someone who is looking for a preschool for their child, we would be grateful for the referral. Read on for more February news!

LOVE OUR BOOKS MONTH: In February, your child can bring a favorite book for the teacher to read to the class on his/her special helper day. It can go along with the units that we are learning, or just an old favorite. Please give the book directly to the teachers as we don't check book bags.

VALENTINES PARTIES & PICK-UP PROCEDURE: Please see below in "Important Dates" for your child's party date and details.

Just a reminder that our pick-up procedure on party days will be in effect on the day of your child's Valentines Party. Parents may come inside to pick up your child. Most parents and grandparents will be here for the party anyway, but if you cannot attend, remember to park and come inside to pick-up your child.

PRESIDENTS DAY: Please note there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 20th due to Presidents Day.

3s Units: Students in our 3s classes will focus on the following units this month:

  • Rectangle and heart shapes

  • Recognizing differences in sizes and sequencing from small to large and large to small

  • Continue with motor skills activities

  • Ground Hog Day and weather (we will try and go out to see our shadows, so please make sure to send your child with hats and mittens in case it's a little chilly outside)

4s Units: Our 4 year-old kids will be busy with the following:

  • Letter and sound recognition of letters "Ii," "Jj," "Kk," Ll," "Mm," and "Nn"

  • Money identification and counting simple change

  • Dr. Seuss week

Time To Grow: Time To Growers will continue work with our word of the week and Willy the Word Worm. In cooking, we will make oatmeal, pancakes, and quiche to go along with our letter units. We will also take a field trip this month to Pizza Hut! Thank you to all the moms who have volunteered to drive. These field trips have been wonderful for the kids.
