School is officially in session here at St. Luke's. We would like to welcome Miss Jenny, who joins us as a new teacher this year with our morning 4-year old class. We also welcome Miss Cheryl, who is substituting for Mrs. Cahill for the first two weeks while Mrs. Cahill attends to family matters.
Our first week included a few tears offset by lots of smiles and laughter. We discovered new toys and played with new friends. We also dove right in with learning about important skills such as listening and sharing.
In the 3 and 4 year classes, our first week focused on "me." We talked about all the ways in which we are different from one another and how those differences make us special. Some guest visitors came to talk to us about "diversity." We also made art projects that celebrated how special each one of us is.
In Time To Grow, we focused on the letter "A." We learned how to identify the letter "A" and how it sounds. We also talked about the "apple." On the first day of school, we baked a yummy apple crisp. We also started working on our cutting, writing and matching skills.
The students are doing a tremendous job settling in and becoming comfortable with their surroundings and classmates. As we look forward to our second week of school, some students may still feel a little bit of separation anxiety, and we will continue to work on that. We thank you for your patience and cooperation in helping us to say "see you later" to Mommy and Daddy in the mornings.
